Foxconn Sharp performance
March 31, 2016 - Taiwan’s Hon Hai Precision Industries -- better known as Apple supplier Foxconn -- is to take over struggling Japanese electronics company Sharp. The deal worth ¥389 billion ($3.5bn) will give it a 66% stake in Sharp.
The deal marks the biggest takeover in Japan's technology industry, but also the end of independence for the 100-year-old company which started out making belt buckles and mechanical pencils.
The acquisition of Sharp will give Foxconn a number of significant assets, including LCD display production capacities and intellectual property.
