$1 billion cyber attack

By Duncan Mil

March 21, 2016 - Investigators are seeking to track down hackers who attempted to steal almost $1 billion of Bangladesh’s foreign reserves. While authorities blocked most of the illicit transfers, $81 million is still missing.

The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is assisting Bangladesh police in tracking down culprits who transferred $81 million from the Bangladesh Bank's account at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York to casinos in the Philippines. The theft is one of the largest cyber heists in history.
