Portugal presidential election
January 25, 2016 - A 67-year-old law professor and TV pundit, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, was the clear winner Sunday in Portugal's presidential election, with 52 percent of the vote, according to a nearly-complete count.
De Sousa is known as "Professor Marcelo" to his supporters and has been involved in politics since his youth, helping to establish the centre-right Social Democratic Party.
Portugal was one of the countries hardest hit by the crisis in the eurozone, accepting an international bailout in exchange for sweeping cuts.
