Air strikes target Daesh oil revenue

Daesh makes around $1.5 million a day from oil fields under its control in Syria, charging traders between $10 and $35 a barrel. Refined fuel is sold in its self-proclaimed “caliphate”, rebel-held north, and in Turkey

Daesh oil business

By Duncan Mil

December 4, 2015 - Britain has begun a wave of air strikes on Daesh-controlled oil fields aimed at cutting off the terror group's source of funding -- which could hit its ability to hire jihadist fighters in the Middle East and abroad.

Daesh makes around $47 million a month from selling crude from oil fields under its control in Iraq and Syria. The oil is sold for between $10 and $35 a barrel to smugglers, who in turn sell to middlemen in Turkey.

Eight Tornado warplanes and six Eurofighter Typhoons are now operating out of RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus to join the war against so-called Islamic State.
