UN 70th anniversary
October 24, 2015 - A blue wave will spread across continents as landmarks around the world will be lit up blue on Saturday to celebrate United Nations Day and the institution’s 70th anniversary.
Memorable moments over the years include Khrushchev's shoe and Netanyahu's cartoon bomb. In September 1960 Cuban leader Fidel Castro denounced the United States in the longest timed speech ever at the UN General Assembly – 4 hours and 29 minutes. In 2009, Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi ripped up a copy of the UN Charter at the podium.
