Western Balkans migrant route
August 26, 2015 - More than 110,000 migrants have entered Hungary -- part of Europe’s Schengen zone of passport-free travel -- this year, en route to the more affluent countries of Austria, Germany and Sweden. The crisis is set to hijack a summit in Vienna of leaders from the western Balkans region and Germany on Thursday.
Front-line states Austria and Italy, will present a five-point plan to tackle people-trafficking gangs.
The plan includes a "fairer" distribution of refugees around the EU, greater security cooperation, helping the countries where the migrants come from and a "pan-European asylum strategy".
