Apple Music launching into volatile market
June 30, 2015 - Apple’s entry into the music streaming business is set to create a fierce battle for dominance and survival in an already crowded marketplace.
The London-based International Federation of the Phonographic Industry estimates that the new Apple Music service has the potential over the next two years to attract 100 million subscribers. That would more than double the combined 41 million paid subscriptions to all of the current music streaming services last year.
Streaming leader Spotify had 20 million paying subscribers worldwide as of June 2015, up from 10 million paying subscribers in May 2014.
