Crystal meth factfile
April 8, 2015 - The Australian government has established a national task force to tackle the rapidly growing problem of addiction to crystal methamphetamine, also known as “ice”, across the country.
One of Australia’s largest drug rehabilitation services, Odyssey House, reports that 40% of drug users entering its rehabilitation programme cited amphetamines such as ice, base or speed as their leading problem, up from 33% in 2013. This compares with heroin/opiates (11% of admissions in 2014, down 42% from 2013) or cannabis (14% of admissions, down 17.6%).
