March 27, 2004 -- The world's fastest plane, the unpiloted X-43A, is scheduled to make a second flight, flying at over Mach 5 speed for 10 seconds and covering 17 miles 27km) before crashing into the Pacific Ocean. Future models of the aircraft, which uses "scramjet" technology, are designed to fly at up to Mach 10 -- 10 times the speed of sound.
