Sheinbaum wird Mexikos erste Präsidentin

By Jordi Bou

June 3, 2024 - Claudia Sheinbaum erreichte einen Erdrutschsieg in Mexiko und wird die erste weibliche Präsidentin von Mexiko, wie das vorläufige Ergebnis der Wahlbehörden des Landes zeigt.

Sheinbaum won the presidency with between 58.3% and 60.7% of the vote, according to a rapid sample count by Mexico's electoral authority. That is set to be the highest vote tally percentage in Mexico's democratic history.

Opposition candidate Xóchitl Gálvez took between 26.6% and 28.6% of the vote, while Citizen Movement candidate Jorge Álvarez Máynez came in third place with between 9.9% and 10.8% of the vote.

Sheinbaum will replace her mentor, outgoing President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, on October 1.
