US Teen besiegt das "unschlagbare” Tetris

By Duncan Mil

January 4, 2024 - Tetris hat seinen Meister im 13-jährigen Willis Gibson gefunden, der die originale Nintendo Version des Videospiels "besiegt" hat – er erreichte den "kill screen" und brachte das Spiel zum Absturz.

For more than three decades, no player has ever managed to beat the version released in 1989 on the Nintendo Entertainment System.

Reputedly “unbeatable,” only an AI programme called StackRabbit has achieved the feat of overcoming it in 2021. This “end” is level 157,  which fans call “True Kill Screen.”

Gibson from Oklahoma, also known as Blue Scuti on YouTube, achieved this feat after 38 minutes of gameplay and captured the moment on video.

“Congratulations to Blue Scuti’ for achieving this extraordinary accomplishment, a feat that defies all preconceived limits of this legendary game,” Tetris CEO Maya Rogers said in a statement.

Beating Tetris was, however, considered impossible by the gaming community as it became so fast that players could no longer keep up. Previously, the community estimated this limit at Level 29. It rose to Level 40 in 2021, then to Level 95 a year later.

Last November, a player known as PixelAndy achieved Level 148, while Blue Scuti reached Level 157 on December 21.

Gibson said the gameplay session was so frantic that he couldn’t feel his fingers afterwards.
