Facebook owner Meta is launching a new app to rival struggling Twitter, saying it will go live on July 6.
The app, called “Threads” will be linked to Instagram, allowing users to keep their Instagram username to log-in. Some techies are referring to the new app as a “Twitter killer”.
Screenshots show an interface that looks similar to Twitter’s, with Meta describing Threads as a “text based conversation app”.
Twitter has been slashing jobs as its advertising revenue plummets following a range of unpopular changes to Twitter made by billionaire Elon Musk, such as throwing out content moderation rules.
On July 1, Musk restricted the number of tweets people could see, garnering even more ire from users.
Meta’s new app will be a free service with no restrictions on how many posts a user can see.
