Glanzlose Trump Befürworter
November 10, 2022 -
The so-called “red wave” many Republicans had been expecting failed to emerge among prominent Trump-backed candidates. Republicans remain on track to seize control of the U.S. House of Representatives but by narrower margins than had been predicted. Which party would control the Senate is unclear and may not be decided until a runoff in Georgia in December.
Exit polls and interviews with analysts and voters showed that while the cost of living and inflation were leading issues, protecting abortion rights was nearly as paramount.
According to exit polls by Edison Research for Reuters, 58 per cent of voters held an unfavourable view of Trump, compared to 39 per cent who viewed him favourably.
Reuters also reported that voters were concerned about the Republican Party’s persistent embrace of Trump, who has signalled he will launch another presidential bid next week.
According to Edison’s exit polls, independent voters, who historically move away from the party in power in midterm elections, voted with Democrats over Republicans by a 49-47 per cent margin.
Democrat John Fetterman’s Senate victory over Trump-backed candidate Mehmet Oz in Pennsylvania will lead to a reckoning among the state’s Republicans, said one Republican official.
“One thing we learned is that a Trump-backed candidate makes it more difficult to win a swing state like Pennsylvania. This state is legitimately tired of Trump at the moment,” he said.
