July 4, 2022 - Nach Bekanntgabe eines großen russischen Sieges im Krieg gegen die Ukraine, ordnet Präsident Wladimir Putin Ruhe und Erholung für seine Truppen nach Eroberung der Stadt Lysychansk im Luhansk Oblast an.

Both sides suffered heavy casualties in the 90-day battle. Russian forces have been fortifying their positions in the city, and beginning the process of establishing administrative control, replacing the Ukrainian local government with Russian military administration.

Russia now sets its sights on the Donetsk Oblast, the second of the two regions that make up the Donbas area of eastern Ukraine which Russia promised to “liberate” when it began the war in February. Russian forces are attempting to advance on several fronts - from Izyum, Bakhmut and Donetsk - to encircle Ukrainian troops within Donetsk Oblast.
