Keine weltweiten Sanktionen für Russland
March 18, 2022 -
While the U.S. and its Western allies assess whether Russia should remain within the G20, around half of the G20 members have imposed no sanctions, despite near universal condemnation of the attack on Ukraine at the UN.
Following its invasion of Ukraine, Russia is fast approaching having twice as many sanctions imposed on it than Iran, with penalties targeting individuals, companies, yachts and aircraft. However, there is a noticeable lack of support for such actions outside of the “west”, with only half of the G20 having imposed sanctions. Major economies including China, India, Brazil and South Africa are still doing business with Russia, while many countries in the developing world see double standards being applied in relation to the inviolability of national borders when compared to, for example, the U.S. invasion of Iraq.
