Furcht vor Tschernobyl Strahlung nach zerstörten Stromleitungen

By Ninian Carter

Ukraine Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba says, “reserve diesel generators have a 48-hour capacity” to power the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant after its electricity supply was cut amid the ongoing invasion of Ukraine by Russia.

Kuleba later added on social media, “after that, cooling systems of the storage facility for spent nuclear fuel will stop, making radiation leaks imminent”.

However, the UN’s International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said it “sees no critical impact on safety” over the loss of power at Chernobyl

The decommissioned Chernobyl nuclear plant was the site of the world’s worst nuclear disaster in April 1986.

More than 2,000 staff still work at the plant as it requires constant management to prevent another nuclear disaster.

Around 400 hostile Russian troops are believed to be stationed there at the moment.
