85 Tote nach Explosionen vor dem Flughafen Kabul
Bei Explosionen in der Nähe des Hamid Karzai International Airports werden mindestens 85 Personen getötet, davon sind 13 US Soldaten.Der Islamische Staat Khorasan hat dafür die Verantwortung übernommen.
Suicide bombers conducted two near-simultaneous attacks. One bomber detonated an explosive vest in a crowd gathered outside the Abbey Gate entrance. A second bomber attacked the nearby Baron Hotel, which houses British nationals awaiting evacuation.
President Joe Biden on Thursday pledged retaliation against the militant group. Biden added the United States has “some reason to believe” they know the leaders behind the attack and that the United States will find means to “get them wherever they are.”
The United States, Britain and Australia had warned citizens to stay away from the airport due to “credible threats.”
General Frank McKenzie, head of U.S. Central Command, said U.S. commanders were on alert for more attacks by Islamic State, including possible rockets or vehicle-borne bombs targeting the airport.
