A new Ipsos poll finds that, out of almost 20,000 people questioned across 28 nations, only 46% are interested in the Tokyo Olympics – and only 16% of those are “very interested”.

Consequently, 54% of those polled are not interested in the Games and 29% of those are “not at all interested”.

Overall, 57% of respondents would like to see the Olympics cancelled, with South Korea polling the highest at 86%. Japan is second at 78%. Turkey, however, would like the Olympics to go ahead, with only 29% wanting them cancelled.

On Tuesday, July 20, head of The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Toshiro Muto, refused to rule out cancelling the Games as Covid-19 cases continue to rise among athletes and support staff.
