KLIMA

Die bisher größte Umfrage zum Klimawandel

By Jordi Bou

January 27, 2021 - Eine große Umfrage zum Klimawandel ergab, dass zwei Drittel der Menschen rund um die Welt das Klima als "globalen Notfall" sehen.

Published by the United Nations Development Program, the Peoples' Climate Vote showed that 64% of people said climate change was a global emergency.

Polling experts at the University of Oxford weighted the huge sample of 1.2 million people across 50 countries to make it representative of the age, gender, and education, resulting in small margins of error of +/- 2%.

Policies had wide-ranging support, with the most popular being conserving forests and land (54% public support), more solar, wind and renewable power (53%), adopting climate-friendly farming techniques (52%) and investing more in green businesses and jobs (50%).

Overall, younger people were more likely to agree with the view that rising temperatures were an emergency, with nearly 70% in favour. For people over the age of 60, this dropped to 58%.

U.S. President Joe Biden can take some comfort that 65% of those in America taking part now view climate change as an emergency.
