The Goreh-Jask pipeline will bring one million barrels per day of oil from the southern Bushehr province to the Iranian coast on the Sea of Oman for exports, according to S&P Global Platts.

The project, which would cost over $1.1 billion, envisages storage capacity of 10 million barrels of crude oil at Jask port.

The new terminal will be the largest after Kharg Island, which accounts for 90 percent of Iran’s oil exports and must be reached through the Strait of Hormuz.

The water channel is the key chokepoint for oil and gas ships traversing the Persian Gulf and has been the scene of military tensions between the U.S. and Iran as well as attacks on tankers.
