Wieviel Geld bekommen MEPs?

As of July 2018, members of the European Parliament are paid €8,757 (£7,721) per month in gross salary, plus pension. After EU tax and insurance deductions, their monthly salary is €6,824 (£6,016).

On leaving office, MEPs are entitled to a “transitional allowance” worth up to €210,184 (£185,325), depending on their length of service.

Expenses include a monthly “general expenditure allowance” of €4,513 (£3,979) to cover constituency office costs, with no requirement to disclose how the funds are spent.

MEPs also get a flat-rate daily subsistence allowance of €320 (£282) – for hotel bills, meals and “related costs” – when working on official business in Brussels or Strasbourg, provided they sign an attendance register.

Travel expenses to and from European Parliament meetings are reimbursed, subject to receipts. Other business travel outside of an MEP’s home country can also be refunded, up to €4,454 (£3,927) per year.

Staffing costs are covered by a monthly budget, with each MEP receiving a maximum allowance of €24,943 (£21,992) a month.
