Formula E 2018-19 Round 11 - Bern, Switzerland

By Tony Mullins

Switzerland held its inaugural Formula E race in Zürich in 2018. The 2019 race was expected to continue around the streets of the country’s largest city, but when it dropped off the calendar due to clashing local events in June, Bern stepped up to the plate to host the race instead.

The racetrack winds through the Ostberg area of the city, with the historic old town forming a scenic backdrop.

Bern’s ePrix circuit is 2.668km long with a total of 13 turns including two chicanes and a long straight that will allow the new second generation Formula E cars to use full throttle.

The layout features strong elevation changes, which would previously have been unsuitable for the electric racers, but is now made possible by the much stronger batteries in the Gen2 cars.

After Bern the teams head to the United States, where the 2018-19 FIA Formula E Championship will conclude with two races in New York City, on Jul 13-14.
