Cannes Film Festival 2019

May 15, 2019 - May 25, 2019 - An der französischen Riviera beginnt das jährlich stattfindende 72. Cannes Film Festival.

This year’s Palme d’Or contenders include acclaimed directors Terrence Malick, Pedro Almodovar and Ken Loach.

A year on from the Cannes red carpet gender equality protest by some of the biggest names in the movie industry, four women directors make the list in 2019 – Mati Diop, Jessica Hausner, Céline Sciamma and Justine Triet.

To date, the festival has hosted 1,645 competition titles from men, but only 82 from women.
