The 17m-long, two-stage Orbex launch vehicle, dubbed “Prime”, is set to be the first UK-built rocket to take off from a UK launch site. It is made from lightweight carbon fibre and aluminum composite, and features the world’s largest 3D printed rocket engine, according to NASASpaceFlight.
The rocket will likely use bio-propane, a clean-burning, renewable fuel source that cuts carbon emissions by 90 percent compared to fossil hydrocarbon fuels.
Most of the rocket components will be built at Orbex’s production facilities in Germany and Denmark. Assembly then takes place at Forres in Scotland before the rocket is transported by road to the proposed launch site at A’Mhòine.
