July 28, 2014 - 100th anniversary of the start of World War I. The Western Front, the line of trenches from the North Sea to the Swiss border which was deadlocked from the first months of the war in 1914 until shortly before its end in 1918, was the main theatre of the “Great War” -- the first mass global war of the industrialised age.
