Antarktisgletscher schmelzen

August 14, 2009 - One of the largest glaciers in Antarctica is thinning four times faster than it was 10 years ago, according to research led by University College London. Satellite data show the surface of Pine Island glacier is dropping at up to 16 metres a year. Collapse of the glacier could lead to the rapid disintegration of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet -- this could raise sea level by an average of 6 metres.
