Super Rugby Championship final 2018
August 5, 2018 -- The Super Rugby Championship final will be contested by the Crusaders of New Zealand and the Lions of South Africa. The final takes place in Christchurch, New Zealand, giving the Crusaders, already the favourites, a home advantage.
The Crusaders are aiming to claim a ninth title, and second successive triumph over the Lions, after defeating them in the 2017 final. Inspired by top points scorer, Richie Mo’unga, the New Zealanders defeated the Sharks and Hurricanes in the qualifiers and semi-finals respectively.
The Lions, with top scorer Elton Jantjies, are appearing in their third consecutive final after losing out to the Hurricanes in 2016, and suffering the same fate to the Crusaders last season. The South Africans overcame the Jaguares in the qualifiers before powering to victory against the Waratahs in the semi-finals.
New Zealand teams have dominated the championship since the inaugural season in 1996, winning 15 of 22 titles.
