China, which dominates both the mining and processing of rare earth metals, is restricting their export to the United States as part of its response to President Trump’s punitive tariffs.

Beijing claims the seven rare metals added to its export control list were chosen because they are used in advanced technologies – deeming them materials with both civilian and military applications.
