February 10, 2025 - من المتوقع أن يقر الرئيس الأميركي دونالد ترامب رسوماً جمركية بنسبة 25% على جميع واردات الصلب والألومنيوم، مما يمدد نزاعاته التجارية إلى قطاع المعادن في موجة جديدة من التدابير الحمائية من واشنطن.

America’s neighbouring countries, Canada and Mexico, are two of the US’s biggest steel trading partners, and Canada is the biggest supplier of aluminium.

If the tariffs do come into effect, they will greatly impact steelmakers in countries that trade with the U.S.

Canada, Brazil and Mexico were the U.S.'s top three steel trading partners last year, followed by South Korea, Vietnam and Japan.

During his first four-year term from 2017, Trump imposed tariffs of 25% on steel and 10% on aluminium.

But he later granted several countries exemptions, including Australia, Brazil, Canada and Mexico, and his successor Joe Biden later negotiated duty-free quota deals with Britain, Japan and the EU.
