August 4, 2023 - Up to 4,000 Wagner troops in Belarus are seeking to destabilise NATO’s eastern flank, according to the Polish prime minister. Poland has deployed 1,000 troops to border.

The Wagner forces are reported to be training the Belarussian army, and Poland has accused Belarus of violating its airspace with military helicopters. Leaders of Poland and Lithuania met in the Suwalki Gap, the strategically important region between Belarus and the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad, which joins the Baltic states to other NATO members, to discuss a coordinated response between Poland, Lithuania and Latvia.

InIn the first Ukrainian attack on one of Russia’s main commercial ports, Ukrainian drones were reportedly downed attacking a navy base near Novorossiysk on the Black Sea, halting all shipping in and out of the commercial port. Novorossiysk is a major terminal for Kazakh oil and gas. Russian attacks on Ukraine’s Black Sea ports have escalated since the collapse of the Black Sea grain deal in July.
