April 1, 2023 - April 30, 2023 - Events in April include the meeting between Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen and U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement, and the launching of a space mission to observe Jupiter’s icy moons.

Apr 2, Finland: Facing recession and soaring inflation, Prime Minister Sanna Marin is fighting to stay in power, with election polls showing no clear winner. The result is unlikely to derail Helsinki’s push for accession to NATO.

Apr 4, U.S.: Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen is expected to meet House Speaker Kevin McCarthy during a stopover on her return from a visit to Central America. Tsai’s meeting is bound to aggrieve Beijing.

Apr 5, U.S.: The eagerly anticipated Super Mario Bros. Movie, based on the iconic Nintendo video game, hits cinema screens, as fans’ favourite Italian plumber embarks on a new high-action adventure.

Apr 10, Northern Ireland: U.S. President Joe Biden and former President Bill Clinton will visit the province for the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement, which brought an end to three decades of conflict known as the Troubles.

Apr 12, Spain: The many aspects of Pablo Picasso’s life and work come under the spotlight this year as institutions in Europe and beyond mark the 50th anniversary of the artist’s death.

April 14, India: The UN projects that India will surpass China as the world’s most populous nation, with each counting more than 1.4 billion residents as of 2022.

Apr 18, Switzerland: Trinity, a 67 million-year-old T. rex skeleton, is expected to fetch $6-8 million at auction
in Zurich. Experts warn the fossils could be sold to a private collector, out of the reach of researchers.

April 13-25, French Guiana: The European Space Agency is scheduled to launch its Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer (JUICE) mission on an eight-year voyage to Jupiter to observe its icy moons Europa, Callisto and Ganymede.
