Australian Open men’s seeds 2022

By Chris Dinsdale

January 17, 2022 - January 30, 2022 - The Australian Open, the first Grand Slam tournament of the season, takes place in Melbourne. World No.1 Novak Djokovic heads the men’s seeds for the Australian Open, and is projected to face No.6 seed Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals.

World No.1 Novak Djokovic is hoping to move on from visa controversy to win a record-extending 10th Australian Open title. The Serbian sought a medical exemption from Australia's strict Covid visa rules after claiming to have contracted the infection in December, but question marks remain over his actions between the test date and his arrival for the Australian Open.

Djokovic will face tough opposition for the title from players including U.S. Open champion Daniil Medvedev; Alexander Zverev, who hoisted the ATP Finals title in November; and the returning Rafael Nadal, fresh from securing his first title on comeback at the Melbourne Summer Set warm-up evenT.

With their great rival Roger Federer absent from the Australian Open due to injury, a 21st major victory for Djokovic or Nadal would edge either player ahead in the total of Grand Slams won. All three players currently have 20 titles apiece.
