معاناة طائرة بوينغ 787 دريملاينر

By Duncan Mil

October 15, 2021 - اكتشفت شركة بويننغ عيبًا في قوة أجزاء التيتانيوم في طائرة دريملاينر 787، وهي أحدث مشكلة يعاني منها إنتاج الطائرات ذات البدن العريض.

Boeing’s 787 is its first new commercial plane in more than a decade. It is the first passenger plane made mainly with carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic composites that weigh less than aluminium. Titanium is used primarily for engines and fasteners -- bolts used inside the fuselage to fasten titanium structures to the plastic composite.

On Thursday (October 14), The Wall Street Journal reported that Boeing is dealing with “certain titanium parts that are weaker than they should be.” The problem has affected 787 jets built over the past three years.

The apparent titanium defect is the latest evidence that Boeing is still struggling to fix production issues. Boeing suspended deliveries in May due to production problems. Dreamliner deliveries were also interrupted for much of the past year, including last October and March, after Boeing uncovered manufacturing defects in the horizontal stabiliser. Up to 893 aircraft are affected by this flaw.

In July, the company announced that it had spotted additional problems near the nose of the plane -- in the forward pressure bulkhead -- and is working to fix them.

A total of 106 Dreamliners worth some $25 billion remained in Boeing’s inventory last month following months of delivery delays.
