April 26, 2021 - “Nomadland” has won the Oscar for best picture. The film from Searchlight Pictures, based on a 2017 book by Jessica Bruder, tells the story of a laid-off widow on a journey of survival. Frances McDormand -- “Nomadland’s” star -- won the best actress.

The best actor award goes to Sir Anthony Hopkins for “The Father.”

The best director went to Chloe Zhao for “Nomadland,” Zhao becomes only the second woman to win this category. Kathryn Bigelow previously won the award for “The Hurt Locker” in 2010.

The best supporting actor went to British star Daniel Kaluuya. The best-supporting actress prize went to Yuh-Jung Youn for “Minari.”

“Mank,” which led the field with ten nominations, scooped up production design and best cinematography. At the same time, “Sound of Metal” won best film editing and sound.

“Another Round,” directed by Thomas Vinterberg -- a Danish film about four middle-aged white male friends experimenting with alcohol -- won the International feature film award.
