December 8, 2020 - Sales of arms and military services by the largest 25 weapons companies totalled $361 billion in 2019, 8.5 percent more than in 2018, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).

The top five companies were all from the United States – Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon and General Dynamics – with combined arms sales of $166 billion.

Overall, 12 U.S. firms appear in SIPRI’s list of the biggest arms dealers, constituting 61 percent of the combined weapons sales of the top 25.

After the U.S., China accounted for the second-largest share of total arms sales of the top 25, at 16 percent. Four Chinese firms featured on the list, with three in the top ten.

For the first time, a Middle Eastern company was ranked in the top 25, at number 22. United Arab Emirates-based EDGE was created from the merger of 25 smaller companies, accounting for 1.3 percent of the list’s combined arms sales.
