October 6, 2020 - Japanese gaming giant Sega is celebrating its 60th anniversary by reviving the 30-year-old Game Gear console – but in microscale.

Sega is rereleasing its 30-year-old Game Gear handheld video game system, as a mini retro console to mark the company’s 60th anniversary.

Curiously, it really will be miniature, coming in at only 8cm wide and featuring a miniscule 2.92cm screen (240x180 pixels) – the original machine was 21cm wide and featured an 8.13cm screen.

The Game Gear Micro is slated for released in Japan only, in October, costing around $50 and will be available in four colours (black, blue, yellow and red), each incorporating four games from its back catalogue. A four-pack version is available for $200 that comes with all four coloured consoles bundled with a bonus "Big Window Micro" screen magnifying add-on – an admission perhaps that Sega knows they are so small as to be virtually unplayable!

The game titles in full are as follow:

Black console:
1) Sonic the Hedgehog
2) Puyo Puyo 2 (aka Puyo Puto Tsu)
3) Out Run
4) Royal Stone

Blue console:
1) Sonic and Tails
2) Gunstar Heroes
3) Sylvan Tale
4) Bakubaku Animal

Yellow console:
1) Shining Force Gaiden
2) Shining Force Gaiden 2
3) Shining Force Gaiden Final Conflict
4) Nazo Puyo Arle no Roux

Red console:
1) Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible
2) Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible Special
3) The GG Shinobi
4) Columns

Although presently only available for preorder in Japan, Amazon.jp is accepting international orders.
