الجدول الزمني للاحتجاجات لمقتل جورج فلويد

By Jordi Bou

June 4, 2020 - The death of 46-year-old African-American George Floyd while in police custody in Minneapolis has sparked protests across the United States and propelled the issue of racial justice to the top of the political agenda five months before the presidential election on Nov 3.

The vast majority of demonstrations over the past eight days have been peaceful, but some have turned violent and curfews have been imposed in a number of cities.

Prosecutors on Jun 3 upgraded charges for the four officers involved in the Floyd case. The charge against Derek Chauvin was elevated to second-degree murder, court documents show. The other three officers, previously uncharged, face counts of aiding and abetting murder.

The protests have echoed those of the Civil Rights movement more than 50 years ago. This action was led by Martin Luther King Jr and sought to challenge white supremacy and the segregationist policies that were commonplace at the time.
