Covid-19 exposes racial disparity in U.S.
April 14, 2020 - One in three Americans hospitalised with coronavirus disease (Covid-19) is black, even though African Americans constitute just 13 percent of the overall U.S. population, according to a CDC study.
By contrast, the report found that 45 percent of hospitalisations were among white people, who make up 60 percent of the population. And 8 percent of hospitalisations were among Hispanics, who make up 18 percent of the population.
The study of some 580 hospitalised patients in 14 states underscores the long-standing racial disparities in healthcare in the United States, NPR said.
