معدل الوفيات من فيروس كورونا الجديد

March 2, 2020 - People aged over 60 and those with pre-existing medical conditions appear to be most at risk from the coronavirus, the World Health Organisation has said.

In the first large-scale study of coronavirus cases in China, the death rate was much higher for patients in their 70s and 80s, likely because many of those people had pre-existing health issues.

Coronavirus patients with heart disease, for instance, had a mortality rate of about 10 percent, while for those with diabetes it was 7 percent.

The research, conducted by the Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, also showed that patients in their 50s were about three times more likely to die than those in their 40s.

About 80 percent of coronavirus infections were mild, according to the analysis of more than 44,000 confirmed cases.
