March 8, 1946: The Bell Model 47 helicopter, developed by inventor Arthur Young, was awarded the world’s first commercial helicopter license for civilian use
March 9, 1965: U.S. President Lyndon Johnson authorized the use in Vietnam of napalm, a petroleum-based anti-personnel bomb that sticks to skin and causes severe burns
March 10, 1977: The rings of Uranus were discovered when dips in the brightness of a star were spotted before and after the body of the planet passed in front of it
