زعيم حزب العمال البريطاني المقبل

January 13, 2020 - Five candidates have made it through to the next stage of the contest to succeed Jeremy Corbyn as leader of Britain’s opposition Labour Party, after securing the backing of their colleagues.

Sir Keir Starmer, Rebecca Long-Bailey, Lisa Nandy, Jess Phillips and Emily Thornberry received the required 22 nominations from MPs and MEPs to win a place on the ballot paper.

A sixth candidate, Clive Lewis, withdrew shortly before the deadline after failing to secure enough votes.

The prospective leaders now need to gain backing from Constituency Labour Parties and unions, where they will need at least five percent from either.

A postal ballot of Labour Party members will then run from February 21 to April 2, with the result being announced two days later on Saturday April 4.
