عاصمة مصر الجديدة قيد الإنشاء

January 6, 2020 - Egypt’s New Administrative Capital is being built from scratch in the desert 35km east of Cairo. Covering 700 square kilometres, the city is designed to alleviate congestion in the current capital.

The project, launched in 2015 by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, aims to offer a clean and efficient base for the government and finance industry, as well as homes for at least 6.5 million people, Reuters said.

The first phase, covering about 168 square km, will have ministries, residential neighbourhoods, a diplomatic quarter and a financial district. A large mosque and cathedral, as well a hotel and conference centre, have already been built.

The Egyptian government plans to start running the country from the new capital from mid-2020.
