March 11, 2019 - As the final territory held by so-called Islamic State is recaptured in Syria, the international community is faced with the question of what to do with returning foreign fighters and their families.
At least 41,490 citizens from 80 countries travelled to Syria and Iraq to join so-called Islamic State, a quarter of which were women and minors, according to a 2018 report by King’s College London.
More than 7,300 of these have now returned to their home countries.
