ترامب يطالب الحلفاء بدفع المزيد من أجل الدفاع

March 8, 2019 - The Trump administration is drawing up plans to demand that countries hosting U.S. troops pay the full cost plus 50 percent for the privilege of having American forces stationed on their soil.

In some cases, nations hosting U.S. military personnel could be asked to pay five to six times as much as they do now under the “Cost Plus 50” formula, according to Bloomberg News.

The move is being seen as a way of getting NATO partners to increase their defence spending – a key issue for President Trump since taking office.

Almost 200,000 American personnel were stationed in more than 160 countries at the end of 2018, according to the U.S. Department of Defence. In 2015, Politico estimated that it costs up to $100 billion annually to maintain U.S. forces abroad.
