November 6, 2018 - Democrats regained control of the U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday, giving them the opportunity to serve as a check on scandal-plagued President Donald Trump and his agenda.

In midterm elections, Republicans expanded their majority in the U.S. Senate following a divisive campaign marked by fierce clashes over race and immigration.

All 435 seats in the House, 35 seats in the 100-member Senate and 36 of the 50 state governorships were up for grabs.

One senate seat will remain unfilled following the election -- on November 27, Mississippi voters will either re-elect Republican U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith, the incumbent, or Mike Espy, a Democrat, in a special runoff election to determine who will fill the seat vacated by the retirement of Sen. Thad Cochran earlier this year.
