July 28, 2014 - The Great War claimed the lives of 10 million fighting men and up to 12 million civilians. The “war to end all wars” also cost an estimated $185 billion at the time, or $3.4 trillion in 2014 dollars. In comparison the 2003-10 Iraq war has cost $2.2 trillion to date, according to the Watson Institute for International Studies at Brown University.
