French Ligue 1 crests 2020-21

By Chris Dinsdale

August 21, 2020 - May 23, 2021 - French Ligue 1 season, France's premier football competition.

Bordeaux kick off the new Ligue 1 season at home to Nantes -- the pair were separated by head-to-head records in mid-table last season due to the average of points per matches played system adopted to complete a curtailed schedule.

New boys Lens, promoted back to Ligue 1 for the first time since a controversial relegation in 2015, and Lorient, returning to the top tier of French football for the first time since 2017, start their campaigns against Nice and Strasbourg respectively.

The opening fixtures for reigning champions Paris Saint Germain and Olympique Lyon are postponed to a later date after their extended participation in the UEFA Champions League during the summer. While Olympique Marseille’s clash with Saint-Etienne has been postponed until September due to several positive coronavirus tests at Marseille.

The highly anticipated “Le Classique” matches between Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique Marseille take place in Paris on September 13, and in Marseille on February 7..

Opening weekend fixtures (Aug 23 unless stated):
Bordeaux v Nantes (Aug 21)
Dijon v Angers (Aug 22)
Lille v Rennes (Aug 22)
Monaco v Reims
Lorient v Strasbourg
Nimes v Brest
Nice v Lens
