World culture falls victim to pandemic
March 26, 2020 - As the Covid-19 coronavirus enforces sweeping changes to everyday life, iconic venues are closed and popular events have been cancelled or postponed. Tourist attractions, heritage sites, theme parks, museums, galleries, theatres, and cinemas have all been forced to shut their doors until such time as the emergency has passed.
Films postponed include the premiere of the new James Bond film, No Time to Die, Fast and Furious 9, and the latest Minions movie.
The Cannes Film Festival, Eurovision Song Contest and Coachella music festival are also on hold, but Glastonbury, which would have marked its 50th anniversary this summer, has been cancelled.
Iconic venues off limits to the public include the Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty, Taj Mahal and Sydney Opera House.
