Africa Cup of Nations 2019 venues

By Chris Dinsdale

June 21, 2019 - July 19, 2019 - Egypt hosts the Africa Cup of Nations for the fifth time, with 52 matches played at six venues over four weeks. The Pharaohs have won the tournament on home soil three times previously, in 1959, 1986 and 2006.

The Africa Cup of Nations is the biennial international men’s football championship of Africa. The 32nd edition of the tournament - organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), marks an expansion of the format, with 24 teams competing to be crowned continental Champions. Original hosts Cameroon were stripped of the tournament last year due to delays in stadia and security fears.

Host nation Egypt open the tournament against Zimbabwe in Cairo on June 21. Reigning champions Cameroon begin their campaign in Ismailia against Guinea-Bissau, while top ranked African nations Senegal and Tunisia kick-off their tournaments against Tanzania and Angola respectively.

Egypt are aiming to lift the Africa Cup of Nations trophy for a record-extending eighth time, and deliver their first title since 2010. A total of 14 nations have triumphed since the first tournament in 1957, including 2017 winners Cameroon (5-time champions) and Ghana (4-time champions), who are looking to win their first title since 1982.

A total of 52 matches will be played at six venues over four weeks, with the final taking place at the Cairo International Stadium on July 19.
