Timeline of Omar al-Bashir’s leadership

By Mike Tyler

April 11, 2019 - After 30 years in power, Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir has been arrested and deposed by the military, following nearly four months of protests against his rule.

The army has also taken over the country for the next two years and imposed a three-month state of emergency, plunging the nation into new uncertainty.

Bashir’s time in power will likely be remembered as among the most oppressive in Sudan’s modern history. For the last decade, he has been under a cloud of an International Criminal Court arrest warrant for crimes against humanity, war crimes and genocide in the region of Darfur.
